I am always thinking about the best of the best, pound for pound. Who deserves to be called the best and why? (IN THEIR PRIME)
So, here's my list:
.) Fedor Emelianenko - no explanation required.
.) Anderson Silva - I dislike his persona, but cannot deny his abilities. Stepping up to a higher weight division is expected at this point. Needs more belts.
.) Wanderlei Silva - What an animal. Who doesn't love a fighter who is willing to STAND UP AND go to town. Thoroughly entertaining. Total crowd pleaser. Undefeated in Pride FC for over 5 years fighting great fighters (Not the no-names)
.) Bas Rutten - Unstoppable in his prime.
.) George St.Pierre - The most boring fighter ever. Going to ground is a given. Avoids fights he knowns he'll lose & wont fight in a higher division. But he is undeafeted for a long time so I have to give very reluctant credit.
.) Dan Henderson - Just keep going!!!
.) Shogun Rua - Unstoppable in Pride FC before injuries took their toll.
.) Alistair Overeem - A pure beast. Frightening. Fought in light heavy and heavy weight.
.) Jon Jones - Again, I dislike his persona, but in honestly has every aspect covered. Would rate him higher if he moved up to heavyweight and dominated.
.) Nick Diaz - What's not to love. Rapid improvement. Total attitude. Loves to stand up and bring a good show. Doesn't gas. Anyone who goes toe to toe with him fails miserably. Takes no shite.
.) Mirko Cro Cop - Only guy to push Fedor in Fedor's prime. Beat alot of big names. Sadly, like Shogun, injuries took their toll.
.) Royce Gracie - Made the world stand up and take notice how dangerous Jui Jitsu is in MMA.
.) Josh Barnett - Very smart fighter. Fought in just about every organization and was never had a form slump.
.) Chuck Liddell - Love the way he fought. Once again, stuck in the same weight division.
.) BJ Penn - Purely for fighting at different weights regulary. Nothing to hide.
.) Junior Dos Santos - Would rate him higher but hasn't had enough fights.
.) Gegard Mousassi - Held his own in Middle weight, Light Heavy, and Heavy weight. VERY rounded fighter.
.) Quinton Jackson - Beaten some great fighters over his time.
.) Sakuraba - Known as the Gracie Killer - That speaks volumes.
.) Mark Coleman - Was FRIGHTENING in his time.
Notable mentions: Matt Hughes. Ben Henderson. Jose Aldo. Lyoto Machida. Don Fry. Dan Savern. Randy Couture. Vitor Belfort.
